Early Childhood Mental Health Training and Consultation Project

In partnership with the State of Alaska’s Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems and the Office of Children’s Services, the Alaska Child Trauma Center is offering early childhood mental health training and technical assistance to organizations seeking to develop and/or expand mental health services for young children and their families. Organizations that are committed to developing early childhood mental health services are encouraged to apply to receive on-site training and consultation. There is no charge to participate in this project. To be considered eligible, applicant organizations must currently provide mental health services to children in Alaska. Please note: This opportunity is available to organizations, not individual providers, and only letters of interest from organizations will be considered.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES

The selected applicant organization will receive the following training and consultation services, provided by the Alaska Child Trauma Center:

  • Two hours of pre-training consultation to project leaders. This consultation will focus on project goals and pre-training planning and organization needs assessment.
  • A half day of training on early childhood mental health.
  • A two-day training in clinical intervention with young children using the Attachment, Self-Regulation and Competency (ARC) framework (Blaustein & Kinniburgh, 2010).
  • Post-training consultation and technical assistance to support implementation and fidelity of the ARC treatment framework.

The selected applicant organization will be responsible for the following:

  • Identify project leaders for implementation and coordination of the project. At least one project lead should be an administrator or supervisor with decision making authority.
  • Work with the project team to identify barriers and develop strategies to overcome barriers to implementation of early childhood mental health services.
  • Coordinate all logistics for training including, obtaining a venue, and coordinating audio/visual needs. Provide for personnel time to attend needed trainings and ongoing consultation.
  • Collaborate with the project evaluation team to collect data demonstrating the effectiveness of the project.
